The lake was created in the 15th century and widened later and a dam across was also created in that period. It was Maharaja Udai Singh II build up the dam and widened the lake.
Many wonderful palaces, temples, hilly terrains, bathing ghats and many gardens, surrounded the lake. No tourist can miss this peaceful lake, which visits Udaipur.
Saheliyon-ki-Bari or the 'Garden of the Maids of Honor' of Udaipur was previously set-aside for the royal ladies who came here for a leisurely walk. A well planned garden, with broad lawns and shaded walks located on the banks of the Fateh Sagar Lake. At present it has opened for the visitors. Its fountains positioned in the four picturesque pools of the garden attract tourists. The Jagdish Chowk Road is well liked amongst the tourists visiting Udaipur, featuring handmade crafts and jewellery.
Ghanta Ghar Road is famous for fabrics made in Udaipur and Rajasthan; it is also called as fabric lover’s glory. Bapu has carpenters making wooden toys in the traditional manner. They also make wooden puppet with huge eyes.
Shil Gram is a rural crafts development center structured as an artificial village.The Meera Kala Mandir (a small theatre) has one-hour every day programme of Rajasthani folk dance and music performance and puppet shows.
The most expensive place is the lake Palace Hotel, has array of cuisines, but a prior reservation is required.
